Europe imposes caps on banker bonuses, insurance companies could be concerned

The European Parliament sounded the death knell for unrestricted bonuses for some bankers and traders in Europe on Wednesday when it approved limits due to come into force in January.

The action was a response to public outrage in the face of bonuses widely seen as excessive during the global financial crisis. But the banking industry has warned that the restrictions could hurt Europe’s competitiveness to the benefit of rival financial centres from Wall Street to Hong Kong.

Pascal Canfin, a Green MP from France, said that the caps on bonuses imposed by the European Parliament were “the most ambitious in the world” and would end “extravagant bonuses synonymous with extravagant risks.”

I have ridden in a Toyota Prius but that vehicle must have been about three years old, not a 2010 as seen in this video. A friend of mine owns it. The Prius was a nice ride and enjoyable.

US jobless claims surge more than expected

New claims for US unemployment benefits jumped more than expected last week, official data showed Thursday on the eve of the key June jobs report.

Initial claims for jobless benefits rose to a seasonally adjusted 472,000 in the week ending June 26, an increase of 13,000 from the previous week’s upwardly revised level of 459,000, the Labor Department said. The leap was sharply higher than the consensus analyst forecast of 458,000 claims. T

Worldwide travel insurance up as Brits go further afield

More Brits are taking out worldwide travel insurance for long-haul trips, suggesting that they are becoming more adventurous in their travel destinations.

According to new research from Swiftcover.com, nearly one in four travel insurance policies taken out with the insurer are for long-haul holidays, compared to one in five policies five years ago.

OCI Study Demonstrats the Effectiveness of a Return to Work Prgram on Short Term Disability Claims
